We believe that the active participation of citizens and frontline administrators is critical to the momentum on responsive governance. There is a complex relationship between the citizens and the state that shapes governance outcomes. The first step towards these stakeholders claiming their rights and acting for themselves comes from gaining knowledge of the governance structures and awareness of rights. Our Learning and Development team works towards this goal by focusing on:

• What the government system looks like from the inside.
• The intended purpose and structure of welfare schemes.
• The role citizens and grassroots administrators can play in the government system.
• How they can monitor public service delivery at the local level.

Our learning opportunities range from structured courses to workshops and experiential programmes. These are based on facts and evidence from our research for practical value. Till now, we have trained more than 800 citizens and administrators to raise governance standards and improve accountability.
