Launched in 2005, the Backward Regions Grant Fund (BRGF) is the Government of India’s (GOI) flagship programme aimed at addressing infrastructure and capacity gaps in backward districts. The scheme has been discontinued in FY 2015-16.

Using government data, this brief reports on the following parameters:

• Variation in allocations and expenditures in districts
• Assets created under BRGF
