India is urbanising rapidly, and the government has been allocating increasing amounts of money for urban development. Launched in December 2005, Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) is GOI’s comprehensive flagship programme for urban development. This Budget Brief offers an overview of India’s urban development sector, and highlights trends in expenditures in JNNURM, with a focus on infrastructure.
